Sherry Ramsey - Book Launch
Join us for a book launch and Q&A with Sherry Ramsey, author of One's Aspect to the Sun, a science fiction/space opera published by Tyche Books.

Captain Luta Paixon of the far trader Tane Ikai needs to know why she looks like a woman in her thirties-even though she's actually eighty-four. She isn't the only one desperate for that information. The explanation might lie with her geneticist mother, who disappeared over sixty years ago, but even if her mother is still alive, it's proving to be no small task to track her down in the vast, wormhole-ridden expanse of Nearspace. With the ruthless PrimeCorp bent on obtaining Luta's DNA at any cost, her ninety-year-old husband asking for one last favor, and her estranged daughter locking horns with her at every turn, Luta's search for answers will take her to the furthest reaches of space-and deep inside her own heart.

The Ethics of Doctor Who
Throughout the series, each of the Doctor's incarnations has had a different personality and, therefore, a different opinion on how steadfast or flexible his moral guidelines are. The most recent series' have put the Doctor up against some of his toughest challenges and pushed the limits of his mercy. But how merciful is he really?

Showrunner Steven Moffat has been making a point of showing us how the Doctor's legend is not always that of a hero. His past is mysterious and blood-soaked; he spends his whole life running from it, doing everything he can to avoid having to look back. The revelation of a hidden incarnation of the Doctor--a "dark" Doctor--proves that he has more skeletons in his closet than he is willing to admit.

Cosplay Modeling & Photography
A lot of panels for cosplay are about the basics, fabrication, armour and props, etc. However we want to bring our panel 'outside' of the convention atmosphere. We all have seen those amazing cosplay photos but there's never any information about how to make some yourself besides being a professional model or photographer. We will take cosplayers, photographers, and anyone insterested, through the basics of what makes a good picture, great and how they can create real works of art from both sides of the lens.

Anti-Zombie Combat Workshop
This workshop is designed to prepare people to survive a zombie attack long enough to get to safety, or at the very least find some reliable weapons. Lots of people have zombie plans, but not many people consider what they would do if they were caught in the middle of an attack with only a small melee weapon, or worse yet, no weapon at all.

Hand-to-hand combat with a zombie is very different from hand-to-hand combat with a human in ways that not everyone will consider. The presenter has extensively studied both the Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks and the Zombie Combat Manual by Roger Ma and, based on his findings, has developed a martial art specifically for use against zombies. The core tenets are simple: 1. If you can run, RUN. 2. Don’t be fancy. 3. Always know, never assume. 4. There are no heroes, only survivors. 5. Keep your head. Don’t panic.

A Thematic Approach to Science Fiction
Science fiction is often called "the literature of ideas," and with good reason: the fresh central idea is often the defining characteristic of a science-fiction novel. Join bestselling author Robert J. Sawyer for a discussion of how to come up with and develop a high concept for your own science-fiction or TV series by finding the theme that will give rise to your plot and characters, and enthrall your audience. Sawyer's own Aurora Award-winning novel FlashForward had its theme summarized in the opening narration of every episode of the ABC TV series based on it: "On October 6, the planet blacked out for 2 minutes and 17 seconds. The whole world saw the future." Come prepared to try to distill your own notions down to something equally succinct and exciting, so that you can focus on what your story is really about.
